Senior Summer Fête: A Month of Connection, Creativity & Community

From sunny days and warm nights to delicious treats and fun-filled events, summer at Grace Inspired Living is a celebration for everyone—all summer long!

This June, Lutheran Community at Telford and The Community at Rockhill embraced the spirit of a true fête — a vibrant celebration of summer, togetherness and lifelong enrichment. Residents across both campuses enjoyed a thoughtfully curated lineup of activities, paralleling a month-long Oktoberfest in 2024, designed to foster connection, spark creativity and make the most of these sunny days and warm summer nights! From delicious themed meals and musical performances to art exhibits and educational outings, the Summer Fête at Grace Inspired Living Communities offered something for everyone and ensured that each resident could find joy and inspiration throughout the month.

Lutheran Community at Telford’s highlights included an elegant Le Dîner en Blanc (pictured below), where residents joined in on the cultural phenomenon of the same name and donned their finest white attire for a memorable evening of delectable cuisine and camaraderie. The Father’s Day Cookout brought residents and their families together over classic summer fare, laughter and heartfelt tributes to dads. Creativity took center stage at the Art Gallery Opening, featuring resident artist Walter LaForet (also pictured), whose vibrant watercolor works drew admiration and sparked conversation during a reception that followed. For our community’s hobbyists, the Train Room Open House (pictured left) unveiled a new ‘N Scale’ layout, delighting hobbyists and newcomers alike. Finally, the month was culminated with a special LiveWell Cooking Demo by Corporate Executive Chef Chris Goggins and special guest Joel Umberger of P&G Trading Company, Grace Inspired Living’s fish monger, offering residents a behind-the-scenes look at culinary innovation and sustainable seafood sourcing against the economic challenges of today.

Meanwhile, at The Community at Rockhill, the sounds of summer rang out with concerts by Jazz Duo Pete Smyser & Ted Lis as well as The Guys & Dolls Resident Choir. The outdoor Audubon Symphony Orchestra Concert & Ice Cream Social was a true crowd-pleaser, pairing beloved movie theme songs with sweet treats under a golden sunset sky (pictured below). Residents of all care levels took a nostalgic stroll down memory lane at the Activities team’s whimsical “Wedding Party,” an afternoon of story sharing, sparkling cider and wedding memorabilia celebrating love in all forms (also pictured). Lastly, the campus buzzed with excitement during its semi-annual Carnival, where old-fashioned games and mini funnel cakes brought out everyone’s playful side.

Throughout this summer kickoff event, both communities enjoyed a robust calendar of engagement opportunities, including fitness classes, themed social hours, day trips to local attractions like the Elmwood Park Zoo and John James Audubon Center, and more. Anytime, residents are able to travel seamlessly between the sister campuses using “The Loop” shuttle, to make sure no one misses out on the fun!
